We (UMS ITS) found ourselves installing an ever increasing number of Linux machines and making heavier use of rpmfind.net. It seemed useful to create a local mirror to improve access particularly during times of peak load on the network and on rpmfind.net. To this end, we are mirroring a small subset of what appears on rpmfind.net.
Since we have made the effort to maintain this mirror for our own use, it seemed appropriate to make it available for use within the community we serve. We do however reserve the right to ban anyone we see abusing this server with excessive concurrent connections or other abuses.
As mentioned above, we are maintaining only a small subset of what exists on rpmfind.net. Currently there are only i386 and x86_64 subsets. We have only the Fedora 7, 8 and 9 distributions and the updates for Fedora 7, 8, and 9. The subsets mirrored here may change without notice.
To avoid overwhelming this server and our internet connection, we limit download of ISO images to our client sites (University of Maine System, most libraries and K12 schools in Maine, Maine state government and a number of other non-profit and educational sites in Maine). Currently only the ISOs for Fedora 7 i386, Fedora 8 i386, x86_64 and Fedora 9 i386, x86_64 are online.
